Ending Unwanted Sexual Advances

Ending Unwanted Sexual Advances

Crowded areas can cause people to become impatient, frantic, frazzled, and very uncomfortable. Sometimes it can even be a place where people are sexually assaulted or become uncomfortable from sexual advances.

Many female concertgoers become uncomfortable from being inappropriately touched while trying to enjoy the show or their favorite bands.

After female concertgoer Hannah Camiller of Glasgow, Scotland, shared her story of being victimized, four other girls banned with her to create the group: Girls Against Gig Groping.

Now the five girls are sharing stories and bringing this issue to the public eye, they are gaining major supporters. Bands like Senses Fail, the 1975,Circa Waves and Slaves are some bands that contacted the girls to show support of their initiative. The girls have also gained the attention of the British media like Huffington Post UK and BBC.

The girls insist Girls Against Gig Groping or GA, extends to all sexes since GA was the brainchild of intersectional feminists, they seem to focus more on women. In reality, the cause transcends into all boundaries of race, class, age, sexuality, and gender. GA can teach the importance of ending sexual assault at concerts and festivals.

Currently, Girls Against Gig Groping, is based in the UK, but the girls are hoping to expand all over the world. The girls hope to collaborate with other recognizable feminist activists and campaigns.

To find out more about the group, you can check out the organization’s Twitter and Tumblr pages. Other than following the group’s social media sites and showing support for their initiative, people need to learn and understand the importance of reporting sexual assault . Don't be a bystander, yell for security or a fellow concertgoer for assistance. The best way to end unwanted groping at concerts is by reporting it
